I have been working on Rogue Quest from the ground up on/off for about 2-3 years now. It may not look like much, but I challenged myself to create an entire game engine and playable game with only notepad. Over 3,000 lines of Python code later and we arrive at Rogue Quest, my first ever fully working game! Most of the features in Rogue Quest are somewhat unfinished and simply provide a "proof of concept" as to what Rogue Quest *could* become. For instance, the quest system has but a single quest in it, which is far from ideal. Some mechanics are fully finished and polished such as the trading and stock market; although I would like to add more trading towns and local businesses at some point.
I am not charging anything for this game of course but I would greatly appreciate feedback and please let me know if you encounter any spelling mistakes or bugs, it would help a lot. In the 2-3 years I have been writing this game I am the only one to have ever playtested it (which might show, who knows).
Oh and there are some cheat codes hidden in the game too. Maybe I'll release them at some point... Unless I already have :)
Here's a quick look at how trading works in the game, I thought this would be fun to share!
This is where you come to trade your luxury resources with cities. When you start the game you will have one crew member for your merchant ship but an extra crew member can be hired at the store. Having an extra crew member doubles your income on trade routes.
Each day the different cities will ask for different things that they want (if they want anything that is). If you have the requested resource, you can select option 1 and type the city name. This will begin the trade route with that city and tell you how long it will take. Due to weather and pirates, it may take longer some trips than others.
Once the trade is complete, you will be presented with a screen which will give you a rundown of the length of the trade, the amount of money you made and the item traded. Trading with a city multiple times will increase their relationship with you. Be sure to build good relationships with your trading partners!
