Hello everyone, long time no see 😊
We took a few weeks off because life was kicking us in the ass. It still is.
Things were difficult for a long while. Getting better, hoping for a nice 2022 ^^
So what better way to start the year than by answering some of our most asked questions?
Updated 2022-02-12
Yes, of course!
For now, we accept fan translations and we regularly add them to this translation post. In the future we're hoping to have official translations for certain languages, but this might be a couple years from now since we don't have the budget for it at the moment.
Probably not. Our achievements aren't exhaustive because we consider certain endings to be secrets. Having achievements would give those away and spoil the fun of finding them. This doesn't just apply to endings - we consider the achievements to simply be a guide for some of the other things you can try in the game.
In Windows, your saves are stored in %APPDATA%\Paper Lily\save. Simply delete the "save" folder to erase all your progress. We will add ways to delete individual slots from inside the game in the future.
In Windows, your settings are stored in %APPDATA%\Paper Lily\engine.cfg. Simply delete this file to reset all your settings. If all you want to reset are your custom controls, you can delete %APPDATA%\Paper Lily\bindings.json.
Simply put, this would put us in a position of having to give support under operating systems that we're not all that familiar with (we don't even own a Mac, a friend tests it for us!). We will re-evaluate this in the future, as our resources expand. For now, we provide Linux, MacOS and 32-bit Windows builds only on our itch.io page. The Steam and itch.io versions are pretty much identical, so you're not missing out on anything.
We didn't consider Paper Lily to be the kind of game that people would enjoy on a phone or tablet, so we designed it with PCs (and maybe consoles) in mind - the game would need some work to be ported to mobile. At the moment, we don't have plans for this. That said, we can always re-evaluate this in the future if there's enough demand.
The short answer is: we don't know. As you can see on our store page, Project Kat has been marked as "Profile Features Limited", which is a preventive measure by Steam to deal with certain kinds of abuse. We asked Steam about it, but they're unable to tell us why, or when/if this limitation will be lifted.
For the moment, there is no "official" discord server. However, you can create or join fan servers if you wish. We know of one currently hosted by Aria and Tegron available here. Please keep in mind that we're not part of this server so we take no responsibility for what goes on there :)
No
We're honored that people reached out to us with this question. At the moment we are considering crowdfunding, so we've had itch.io donations disabled to avoid double-dipping. If you wish to support the development, you'll have the opportunity to do so. More on this soon!
O-oh.. ok. Here's a cat
Wait.. that doesn't look right...
Wow... Alright, let's tackle this question.
We know it's been quite long since the release of Project Kat, and it's something that weighs heavily on our minds all the time. Despite working whenever we can (given our full-time jobs or studies), sometimes it feels like the game is so large that the pile of tasks never ends.
We had planned to release Chapter 1 by the end of 2021, but several changes have caused it to take longer.
The main reason is that Chapter 1 is much larger than Project Kat and includes some new mechanics that we've never attempted to make before. To give some examples...
PK takes around 45 minutes to beat, and Chapter 1 may reach 3 hours of gameplay.
PK had approximately 2-3 different environments, Chapter 1 will have at least 6 different environments.
PK has 7 CGs, Chapter 1 will have over 15 CGs.
In short, it's a lot more ambitious than we initially planned. Many parts of the chapter are nearly finished from environments to character sprites, to script, but we've avoided posting much of it on our social media to avoid spoilers. Paper Lily: Chapter 1 will deliver a different experience than Project Kat, and much of it comes from the surprise of not knowing what to expect in your adventure.
Another topic we wanted to touch on is funding. Based on our expenses for Project Kat and Chapter 1, we don't think the rest of the game will be able to exist without some sort of funding. We had planned to deliver Chapter 1 at the same time as a crowdfunding campaign (so that people that want to support us know exactly what to expect from the full game). This involves the extra workload of designing and preparing for the campaign. At the moment our best options seem to be Kickstarter or Indiegogo, but if you have some input on this matter feel free to drop a comment.
At the very least, we want to assure you all that we're still working hard on it. We are also working with two amazing composers to deliver the best soundtrack we can. In fact, even if the game sucks, the music will definitely make up for it.
So, to answer the question, we can't answer the question right now. The second we know the approximate release date we'll post about it. All we can say is... Soon.
If you've gotten this far, thank you so much for reading and sticking with us!
