The server that handles trade, chat, autosell, etc will be off until the next update. Nothing bad, just working on features and testing out live features. "Network" will require you use the latest version to able to use those features.
If you use an old version of shipwreck and try to log into online play, it will require to use the latest version of the game.
Itch.io has a launcher that will auto update the game for you as well.
