Here we go, a big catch-up devlog so that I can procrastinate actually working on the game! Wait, that last part slipped out.
So this was a pretty busy week for me. Not with game dev matters, but with working (hi, I'm probably the one person who absolutely loves being a substitute teacher) and doing grown-up things as well. Which means that said game dev matters took a bit of a hit. I will be honest, I am way behind my planned schedule. Especially since I'm still stubbornly aiming for the Christmas Eve release. I still think I can pull it off, it just means that I'll have to really dev hard and focus.
As to what I actually did complete, both Act 1 and Act 2 are done (except for music/sound effects, but that's super quick)! Act 2 is where the sappy Hallmark special inspiration/vibes really start to shine through, with a touch of melodrama as well. And sadness. I didn't mean to get so sad. But it will be okay, the ending will be happy! I also still weaved a lot of weird humor into the story, as seen with the out-of-context quote above. All in all, Amethyst Hearth is shaping up to be very nice!
I got to start Act 3 today...possibly finish it as well, if I'm really serious about getting back on track. Biggest problem right now is that I'm not sure if I will meet my original length goal for the game. It should still be plenty long, just not nearly as long as I had hoped it would be. Ah well, I'm sill doing my best to make sure people get their five bucks (or less, if its a sale) worth.
I am having a really fun time writing and designing this game. It's very relaxing after a long day of teaching to spend an hour or three working in RPG Maker. I'm honestly considering doing all of my visual novels/narrative adventures in RPG Maker from here on out. I just need to learn sprite work so that I'm not using everyone else's assets. :-/
See you all next week, where hopefully I will have an even more completed game to show you! Be sure to check out the demo if you haven't already!
