#game design
First of all, it´s my third Jam. My first one was a few years ago and was the Senscape Jam first edition. I was in the shadows I work alone and had multiple problems, the first one I didn´t use Unreal so it was all new. The first week was to learn and the second was to make a quick sprint of gameplay and puzzles and story. It was crazy I finish the Jam with a huge pain in my back and an incredible headache. So in my mind was I will never do this again.
Here I am finishing my third Jam without any pain and really active to make this game better in the future. Yes, I had 2 years of experience on Unreal, so now I feel better about making a story and planning anything else.
So the Jam begins the theme "Memories and possibilities are ever more hideous than realities." by H. P. Lovecraft and fits perfectly with an idea I had. Yeah, you play like an entity, and you can move stuff, make noise, and do a lot more things.
First I had a huge list of things that I'm not good at all, and horror games it´s at my top. I love the genre but I'm a too scary guy for this kind of game. So I don´t have experience and avoid these games. But I need it to make a horror game with other stuff and think why not to be the ghost or entity, why me not to be the scary thing and the guy of the game scared about what I´m doing. So I change the focus and make this a simple entity found for the first time in limbo and full of doubt and get his first "mission". So the game begins and you can experiment with all kinds of stuff to interact and learn more about what happened and what´s the story behind this old man.
Memories remain it´s a simple exploration narrative puzzle adventure with a strong inspiration from the classic of literature like Poe. the game is simple but if you explore all the details you will find a rich narrative environment with a full story of depression, desperation, and dead. You had 3 finals that I want to explore more.
It´s a short game with a promise to expand and more games with this idea.
