Esoteric Update #155 - Grab-bag Development

Esoteric ♥ Esoterica
A downloadable game for Windows

Sorry, no lore, I don't feel that great, and it resulted in me wasting 2 hours on an unplanned nap!

Anyway, on to the update.

This last week I've felt very burned out on life, so I decided to try and catch up on some loose ends here and there and side projects for the game. So let's maybe start with the big thing - I managed to get patterned T-shirts working, and we implemented 41 patterns so far with some new designs already on the way and a simple way to ready to accept the data.

I also swung this towards a few new preset outfits to round out the selection.

Another minor yet significant change is the new way pages in books are rendered, letting me do a lot more with them. It has to do with moving away from transparency and more towards layer mixing. Makes it easier to design pages since the content has to render with a white background and not a transparent background. Yeah... if you've ever dealt with HTML, you'll know why this makes things a lot easier.

There's also a slew of things I've started but still need a bit of time to finish. This includes such things as:

  • new cosmetics with metallic colours,
  • new hair accessories,
  • a start on implementing the post-brainstorming sleeping mechanics,
  • an extension to filters,
  • an extension to nonverbals (I also have nonverbals overall to finish).

I was also inspired to solve a problem I've had with the limitations of filters. But instead of doing it using new coding for filters, I managed to pass it onto existing mechanics.

There was also some minor code tweaking to improve operation ordering in some modules.

Now I return to bed. Next week is the special year 3 update, and I have a lot to say about that.
