For this devlog, it starts with the idea I'm trying to get across with me game. My topic being income inequality, I did my research on the misrepresentation of income inequality in the mainstream media as the reality of systematic oppression and racial discrimination is erased.
What is my Game?
My game pitch is called Work Hard, Work Harder. The core game focuses around players creating a character with a custom background, ethnicity, sex and immigrant status. Here the core gameplay loop will have players go through a day-by-day system, offering them the option to find a job, go to work (if they have a job), and to pay their bills which is a requirement.
What are the Hooks of my Game?
What's the point of Work Hard, Work Harder?
The goal of Work Hard, Work Harder is to bring awareness to the income inequality facing society in the modern world in a simplified, non-consequential gamified experience. By doing so, we have the opportunity to shine a light on the groups affected by this issue, that being primarily minorities and racialized groups. Most traditional media interpretations of income inequality tend to misrepresent these groups, deflecting attention towards the issue, keeping it away from the mainstream consciousness.
Here's a quick mockup of the character customization.
Thanks for tuning in!
