Ludum Dare Submission!

I made this game for Ludum Dare 4 ("Unstable"). It was a wild ride but I managed to get this done in time. This game is far from what I want it to be, but it is a really good start. I'm hoping to flesh it out into something more akin to Undertale or Deltarune. There's a lot of work ahead of me to make that happen and I have to better learn the tools I use to make something that good. I especially want to figure out better music. It's weird not having actual piano keys to play.

Known Problems & Bugs:

  • In the Sand & Parpel Tunnel fight, sometimes Sand will attack you during the dialogue, or even do 2-3x as many attacks as they are supposed to do. Not sure of the cause for either of these
  • The lighting bugs out when you stand on top of a light occluding object/tile. I know what causes this, I just need to figure out a creative solution
  • Sometimes the game crashes after a battle. This is usually because there was some data that didn't get saved, but I'm not sure what causes this
  • Enemies get deleted immediately when combat is started, and they don't come back until the save data is deleted, even if the player loses the battle
  • Enemies that didn't even engage in the battle can be deleted? There are supposed to be 2 Fred battles available in the first area to give the player practice before fighting Sand and Parpel Tunnel, but once one Fred gets removed, both do
  • For some reason most animations didn't import. I used two different plugins for Godot to import Aseprite animations but neither of them worked very well. I'm not sure if that's due to the version of Godot I used, or if it's the plugins, or what was happening. There's a lot of sprites in the game that are supposed to be animated, and the animation data is in the game, but they display a static version.
  • There isn't really a good end to the game yet, just a skull to say that it's over. Eventually this will be replaced by more content.
