Version 2.0 released
I've just released Version 2 of everyone's favourite faux-retro videogame sitcom. This update improves on just about all aspects of the gameplay, including several quality-of-life features and a partially rewritten plot. Also, everyone has portraits now, so it's not just endless walls of text.
I'd love to hear your feedback, because I personally think this is the best game I've made this year, and I'm very curious to hear where you think we should go from here.
Added
- All dialogues now feature cool portraits.
- The story has been partially rewritten. Most importantly, Jordan now shows up slightly earlier in the plot. Jordan's character design has been improved by roughly 10%.
- The dialogue has been cleaned up and tightened in general, removing many "filler" conversations that didn't really serve any purpose.
- The final boss battle is now slightly more exciting, and also references an additional Simpsons thing.
Fixed
- Previously, collision could linger for up to a second after the enemy's death. This would also cause already defeated enemy to attack sometimes, possibly killing the player. This no longer occurs.
- A few dialogues didn't properly disable controls. This is no longer the case.
- Animated text would occasionally clip into other sprites. This is no longer the case.
Quality-of-life improvements
- The game now actually communicates its control scheme to the player. And makes it clear that gamepads are okay.
- The first level features objective markers, so you don't get lost anymore.
- You can now actually tell when you're in a cutscene and when you aren't in a cutscene.
