#devtober
Big changes for my first proper Devtober 2021 update! Look forward to updates like this every Sunday! Sunday! S u n d a y !
We've got a new test level in which to play around. I'll call this the final alpha version of Cat On Board, next up will be v0.1 with proper levels that have a little more personality. Should this be a left-to-right "complete the level" type of platformer, or something more like THPS where you've got a certain time to get as many points (and chicken wings!) as possible? Who knows? Only one way to find out!
Before anything else, I wanted to make sure there was a core gameplay idea that I found enjoyable, so I wanted the movement to feel right and tricks to feel fun. I think that goal has been more-or-less accomplished, but let me know! I love feedback and I want your criticism!
Anyway, let's talk about tricks. I've added two main types: flips and spins. There's no threat of wiping out and animations can be canceled by other maneuvers, but that will change in a future update. For now, enjoy being the world's most skilled cat-boarder and have fun!
New Stuff
Oops, I did it again. I changed the controls. I had to add "face buttons" for tricks, and decided it felt more natural to assign JUMP and BRAKE to those as well, instead of just being tied to the directional buttons. Finding a good place to put them on the keyboard was a little tough, but I settled with SPACE BAR and either ALT key. Hopefully that's normal. (if not, O/P and X/Z are also assigned to those inputs -- that's my gift to you, dear reader)
Movement Controls : Use WASD or Arrow Keys!
TRICK CONTROLS: In-air only!
ADVANCED MOVES: Don't try this at home!
