This was my first solo effort for a longer-form game jam. It was a lot of work, I learned a some things, and it was fun. I had a massive scope given the time constraint and I'm glad I was able to pull off what I did, but I definitely left some things out. However, I do not think I will be adding to this. I think it stands as a cool reminder for myself what I can do in ~3 weeks if I really focus and cut out distractions. That being said my next jam game will be way smaller.
Key takeaways:
- Particles make things fun
- A dodge rolling mechanic is appropriate in any game
- Map building takes a long time
- I enjoy the process more if I make art assets earlier as opposed to later
- I can't get married to my super secret endgame ideas before the endgame itself is even tangible
- I like making goofy little NPCs
- I need to re-work my text handler to scale better
Special shoutout to all of my Discord buddies who tested my builds for the last week or so. More to come.
