#update #dev
Hope you're all doing well. We reached 40K visits to the World Map Generator page! Which is awesome.
Never when making it did I expect it would become this popular (:
I wanted to use this occasion to tell you a bit about where I've been, future plans and what I'm doing right now.
Since September 9th a year ago (roughly the last update to the generator)... I've been through a lot! in my personal life, as well as in my project development.
One major event that pertains to WMG (World Map Generator) is the "death" of my laptop;
I left it on over-night to update, in the morning it was unresponsive and more or less gone.
I had my main project backed up, but side projects like WMG didn't have updated backups, as well as some important design documents - so I ended up paying a hefty sum to recover some of the data on its hardrive. (I did end up buying a new computer too, and I'm doing fine more or less now.) If there's one takeaway from this update, it's: always back up all of your data.
I'm glad I have this generator back! Even if I don't have any big plans for it for the time being.
Sometime in the near-ish future I'd like to change the map generator's page into more of "tutorial" - to onboard new worldbuilders better and show some neat features to existing map makers.
I do want to get back to this project in the future, in some form. There's so many features I'd like to add!
And it would be fantastic to use it as a base for a game of some kind.
However- currently I'm hard at work on Netherguild: a strategy-roguelite game about exploring deep underground I've been developing alone for the last three and a half years.
Please check it out and wishlist it, especially if it sounds like something you might enjoy. Or tell a friend who enjoys games like Darkest Dungeon and Into the Breach about it!
These wishlists are important to me being able to earn a living as well as working on making awesome projects like this in the future.
That's all for this update! Thank you for reading it and happy map-making (:
