Aug'21 report

Degraman: Act I. Vincent
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Briefly

Life continues to kick the team of Degraman, but already lazily (apparently, the poor life is tired). And we are only getting stronger (✿´‿`)

And we were also very encouraged by the comments on the topic about the price of the game. We counted all the commentators, counted the possible money and have even decided what we will do with this money (we will hire a second artist!) Joke (although maybe not)

What was done

  1. Added music in Vincent's route
  2. Finished a list of all the sounds in the game
  3. Finalized 9 CGs and worked on several more
  4. Finished with the visual part in Vincent's route (including visual effects)
  5. And did all sorts of programming things (partially spoiler, so without details)

And also, starting this month, we switched to the "what can we live without to do the release in the fall" mode. For example, we wanted to make a progress bar showing % of the chapter reading, but then we thought about it and decided that the main thing for us is the release in the fall, and this particular feature is not a blocker for the release. Maybe we will do this feature up to release date, maybe after (or maybe we won't do it at all), but because of it, we're not going to postpone the release date.

And we applied this principle to all our wishlist (backlog) in the game. With a pain in our hearts, we had to push back a lot. But we will almost certainly do the release in the fall.

What we plan

  1. Add music into Cassel's route
  2. Finish with the visual part in the Cassel's route (including visual effects)
  3. Start adding sounds into the game
  4. Finalize 5 CGs and work on several more

---

P. S. We once read the book "Blood, Sweat, and Pixels" and there was a very appropriate, pompous, but still beautiful phrase (not a quote, but close to the original):

Art is never finished, only abandoned.

Therefore, when we write that we have finalized a CG, it happens something like this: "No matter how much we want to change something in this CG, we do not touch it before the release date and assume it's ready." A kind of deal with the <wtf>conscience</wtf>. This is a painful process for us. Perhaps because of this, in August we did not behave very actively in the social networks.

But we decided that if we don't overcome ourselves here, there is a risk that we will never do the release.
