DEVLOG #1 - General overview

This is the first log entry for SVO: Stories Ep I, a 3rd-year Games Art & Design project for Murdoch University. I will be trying to do 1-2 weekly updates starting from now!

This project is based on a concept that has been kicking around in my head for quite some time now. It's actually based on a recurring 'dream world' of sorts that I have been visiting in my sleep the past year or so. The game concept is an Action-Adventure-RPG hybrid FPS with an emphasis on exploration, player-driven narrative and intense combat encounters experienced from a first-person perspective.

Admittedly I should have been doing devlogs for the past month already, as I have been working on some basic aspects of the project over the last few weeks. I'll try to give a rough timeline of what's been done so far:

Started by acquiring the FPS microgame assets from Unity as I decided to use this as my starting point to avoid wasting time on programming basic systems.

Modelled 1st rough pass of level terrain

Started working on primary weapon systems/gunplay

Started modifying the default blaster intending to create a starting weapon

Did some research regarding gunplay and began tweaking weapon/combat systems to increase user feedback and excitement

Some basic experimenting with the default mobile enemy type including weapons, navagent settings and navmesh

Currently, I have a WIP main weapon which is getting more interesting to shoot and look at with some animations and tweaking to weapon scripts. Pretty happy with the rough outline of the level and need to start working on the path/flow + populating with enemies, objects, areas of interest etc. Next update coming soon! :~)
