Hello everyone! It's been a while since the last devlog, and a lot has changed. There are news about both the game and it's future development.
What's new
The new version of the game is right here and it has a A LOT of improvements, most of them listed here:
- Wwise implementation: The game now works with Wwise software, and it includes a fully implemented audio! Every step, jump, explosion or special effect now includes a fitting sound with it. It vastly improved the game experience.
- HUB area: After clearing the tutorial, players will access the HUB area, a place with the entrances of stages (such as "Desert/Snow" and future stages) and an all-new item store!
- Items store: An all-new item store where players can spend their in-game coins to get items!
- Player movement and physics changes: There has been changes in the player movement and physics, making them easier and more enjoyable to control.
- Camera adjustments: The camera position has been adjusted for every stage. The teleport mechanic was affected with this changes (in a good way!).
- Lots of bug fixes and adjustments:
- Fixed an issue that made sections of the tutorial's background dissappear.
- While reviving a partner, their death counter now stops.
- Fixed a bug that made the inventory no longer work after restarting the game.
- Other small issues fixed.
What's coming next
There are still some decisions to make with the team, but right now these are the next steps the game will have:
- A "whip" balancing/hanging mechanic, which allows players to reach new areas . (It's already finished, but it requires an actual playable stage to be shown with).
- A new type of enemy, that flies around a player and tries to stomp them.
- A new stage, longer and more challenging than the previous ones, that includes a shared-screen area and a split-screen area.
About the development
The development of Scratch my Back has changed. I started to develop it three times a week after work, and there are new people joining the team.
I hope you like the latest version of Scratch my Back!
