Update 1.1.1

Cirno Jackson's Icewalker
A browser game made in HTML5

This is an update of the modifications and polish done to the game in post jam. The focus was to make the game more accessible for people who just want to play the game casually, while leaving open options for other players who want a little more.

edit: There is controller support implementation in the game but I did not initially list it in this post because (1) I do not have a controller myself to test it out and (2) I am not sure how it works on the browser. If anyone is able to test it out and give feedback, it would be a big help:

  • South button - Shoot
  • East button - Bomb
  • Left Joystick or Dpad - Movement in-game
  •  "Start" button - Pause menu

I cannot guarantee menu navigation will work properly with a controller, but the gameplay itself should be playable.

Fixes

  • Quit button freezes the browser tab, removed and replaced it.
  • When starting the game, the transition should now proceed more smoothly.
  • Fixed an issue which made the musical notes spawning queue desync over the game duration. Note spawning should now be more or less consistent throughout the game.

Changes

  • Some settings and game data are now saved between game sessions (when reloading the page).
  • Movement is made more flexible so it does not feel clunky and unresponsive. You still need to hit a movement key at the same time as a note to score points like usual.
  • Shooting (the Z key) can now be done regardless if the key was pressed at the same time as a note, but it has very low damage. Pressing the shoot key in sync with a note will now add bonus damage to the shot.
  • Updated the How to Play menu (and its Jp translation) to reflect the changes mentioned above.
  • Made the range of hitting a musical note slightly larger than its representative graphic (to allow some leniency to compensate any desyncing).
  • Reduced the damage taken when the player touches a small backdoor. Increased the damage taken when the player touches sharp bamboo.
  • Reduced bloom intensity in game as it would be too glaring.

Additions

  • Replaced Quit button with a High Score button. It will show the player's best score they have achieved so far, if any.
  • Players are now able to adjust starting Lives and Hp per Life in the Settings menu to suit their playstyle, if they just want to complete the game, or if they are up for a challenge.
  • Small title cards will now appear briefly to inform what Bgm is currently being played.
