August 15 - 19: The descent into playtest madness

All of my Tomorrows
A downloadable game for Windows
  • August 15
    • Did some loop fixes for the ambience and music tracks. Opened the Unity project to make sure all the assets are good. Unity has to rebuild the meta files attached to everything. I'm still waiting. It's been 10 minutes. I feel I've made a grave mistake. Send help.
    • It finally opened. Went over my checklist of things to complete before doing the next built and then built 'er!
    • Now Danny's lines are too quiet. Lord help me.
    • Everyone else's lines are the perfect volume. Why me.
    • All music and ambience tracks loop basically perfectly. I'm not going to sweat it too much. I could spend literal hours perfecting them and I've already done that and they still aren't the best but they work and that's what matters.
    • Fixed some minor grammar mistakes - may not have found them all, but if I do after the fact, I'll fix them again and just re-release with the updated version.
    • I'll also have to update the main page to include a warning about some minor nudity. I mean... the mermaid is technically naked, but there is a lack of definition for the parts in question (breasts, okay, I said it. I'm a mature adult. I promise), but I feel like it... still counts? I just want to be on the safe side.
    • Put the options/pause menu on its own canvas game object in order to fiddle with the sort order. The pause menu wasn't appearing above everything else, which meant that the player could interact with things outside of it still and made the volume slider finicky because opaque layers were covering it.
    • Everything on my third "fix after the build" list will be done tomorrow morning, or after work.
  • August 16
    • Wrote the post mortem for AOMT - we're coming up on the home stretch for finishing the game, I wanted to make sure I had all my thoughts put together and will be editing it/tweaking it with new/other things as I think of them. This will be released when the game's final build is put up for download.
    • Started work on the video devlog for AOMT which features clips taken from across the development of the game.
    • Didn't do any fixes today from the list made yesterday due to some personal stuff. But it'll be done by the end of the week.
  • August 17
    • Uahnik and squid noises normalized.
    • Removed "text typing" sound that Fungus offers when it writes dialogue. I didn't know what sound to replace it with and just decided to not use a noise here after taking a look at a few other visual novels that don't have a sound when the text is typed by their engine.
    • Normalized Danny's lines hopefully for the last time.
    • Fixed the clouds in the sky portion of the game to fit the screen regardless of resolution.
    • I had to go back to edit an image and I'm mad about it.
    • Made another build. Will try to do more play testing tomorrow, but based on the final fixes I've made, it's done!
  • August 19
    • Completed the final playtest with some minor tweaks to the game as needed.
    • The save game has been deleted and the final build as been built.
    • I closed the trello board, which made me feel bittersweet!
    • Updated the game's itch.io page to include some final information.

And that's it! That's a wrap! Please check out the post-mortem, which will likely be put up in the next week or so once I've completed the video devlog that includes video deving of AOMT! :D
