LIFELIKE: Day 86

LIFELIKE
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS

Hello! Once again, I’ve still got other obligations that are coming before dev for a bit longer. Despite that, it was a reasonable week!

To kick things off, the Twitter account for LIFELIKE is currently celebrating almost 1000 followers! Leo will answer YOUR fan submitted questions and look at your fanart! Check out the post and ask Leo something here

I had two goals this week:

  • Convert the rest of the Main Street rooms from the Overture. I accomplished this! All that’s left is the appliance store!
  • Write 500/words on the Track 2 script a day. I fell 1000 words short here, putting the script at 10,700 words total now. I’m bummed I wasn’t able to meet this goal, but I also feel like I’m closing in on everything that needs to be done. At this point, I’ll move away from word count targets so I don’t force dialogue. As lengthy as these tracks can get, I want the words to have substance. (As a small aside, I set word count goals for myself instead of time because I often found myself spacing out during my hour a day script sessions. It just worked better for me.)

Next week’s plans will be a repeat of this week’s:

  • Convert the appliance store rooms (front, back, and basement). This means I’ll be done converting cutscenes! Once all rooms are converted, I’ll need to a final pass next week on the sound manager and saving system, then playtest to make sure it’s ready to go. Playtesters, if you’re reading this, I deeply appreciate all you do.
  • Finish the rough draft of the script for Track 2. I’m currently taking stock of every room the player progresses through and making sure all interacts are accounted for. All important story beats are accounted for aside from one which I’ll solidify gameplay for this week.

To wrap this log up, I’d like to thank you for reading it. I didn’t expect these logs to be viewed so much! (I hope it’s not because you get an email every time… in which case, please let me know.) I started these with the intention of making my progress transparent to players. I hope it’s accomplishing that, and I hope to begin work on more exciting development soon!
