Post-7DRL Release - v1.1.0
Posted July 07, 2021 by thp
The 7DRL judging results were published, so I can now release the updates I've been working on post-7DRL. Don't let the low ranking fool you-- I only got two judges this year, and one of them didn't bother finishing the first level of the game, so I feel like the low scores don't accurately reflect the real quality of the game.
That's particularly true after this update, which adds a lot of quality-of-life features and fixes a lot of the issues with the early game. You can check the changelog in the menu for full details, but in particular:
- The spawn bug that kept grid bugs from appearing in 999 out of every 1000 games is fixed, which makes the early game a lot less difficult to navigate. If you've been drowning a lot in the early game trying to get through flooded sections, hopefully this will help.
- I included all the control schemes I was familiar with in the 7DRL version (except HJKLYUBN, which I personally dislike), but I got a lot of requests for shift-plus-arrowkeys as an alternative diagonal movement option for people with no numpad. Apparently this is a common control scheme in some roguelikes that lots of people are familiar with. So, that works now, and shift-plus-WASD too just in case someone wants that.
- The look feature I didn't have time to finish for the 7DRL is in now, so you can now look at things (with the Q key, or just hover over them with your mouse).
There's a lot of partly working stuff in here, because I figured it was best to release the quality-of-life changes and the gridbug fix ASAP now that the judging is over. More stuff will be coming, and in a more coherent release form, eventually when I'm satisfied with it.
