The last three months, I've been working on an idea that is now finally publishable.
When playing RTS games like Company of Heroes 2 in my weekly session with some friends, I always have the feeling that multiplayer matches become stressful at some time. There is always something important happening and you can't be everywhere. I'm just not the player who enjoys maximizing his actions per minute (APM).
The idea for this game was born: It is like a normal RTS game, but you are only allowed to give a single order to a single unit every 10 seconds, resulting in exactly 6 APM (and the title of the game). The game even pauses for you and lets you decide your next move. In between the moves, it is still as "cinematic" as a typical RTS game.
The result is a mixture of a turn based and a real time strategy game. I guess it can be called Real Time Turn Based Strategy or Turn Based Real Time Strategy...
Here's a timelapse of a typical singleplayer match:
Along the way, some issues (that were new to me) had to be solved. The units had to be somehow autonomous, so they needed a basic AI for
and all this in 3D in realtime without being too heavy on the CPU. This is my second published game, so I learned a lot.
The game is now available, and I'm quite happy with the result. It can be played in singleplayer and local multiplayer. In singleplayer, there are 5 different difficulties. The goal is to defeat the enemy as fast as possible or to survive as long as possible (the number of seconds can be seen as highscore). In local (hotseat) multiplayer, try to defeat your enemy before he defeats you.
You can play your browser; but for better graphics and performance, it is recommended to download the game for windows.
Have fun! (and feel free to post your highscore in the comments)
