It feels like it's been a productive day today; getting the title screen and most of the other screens connected together makes it start to feel like a real game:
I've decided to commit to the neo-noir premise is that the protagonist Marv has just been released from prison (where he was sentenced for illegally impersonating a mime) and is now on the process of self-(re)discovery.
The game screen HUD is also close to being done now as well:

It doesn't look like the end result is going to be particularly roguelike but I'm optimistic there are enough mechanism and parameters to tune to make an interesting game at least.
