Hi, this is Saitoki.
Since the demo was already released, I thought I should write a devlog about how this game came to be.
As mentioned on the game page, this game was quite a sudden idea I got when valentines VN jam was already halfway through. It all originated from this:
Yes, it was just a random thought after I finished drawing two sprites for practice, and I was like, hey I already got two sprites, making a small game with them should be a breeze , right?
So at the time I wasn't serious and only think about it from time to time. Then a few days later, an idea struck me, it was short, it was love themed, forest background shouldn't be too hard to draw, it was perfect for the jam! Actually most of the sprites in this game are random sprites I drew for practice, Estelle is the only one I purposely drew for this game.
Then later I realized I overestimated my ability and underestimated the time frame, but by then I had liked this idea too much to half-ass it. I had a lot of fun sketching CG for my two boys, cut into my sleeping times on workdays to try to draw and polish all the arts to make them decently good. Even on the last day of the jam, I was coloring the last of the BG and CG, hoping to make it in time.
By the afternoon of 29 Feb, with some CGs still not completed, and the fact that I neglected writing in favour of arts, I had to admit to myself that it's not possible to make it in time, and I should make a fast demo based on what's already written.
It was quite a rush job to code everything in, I have to give up on trying some fancy effect like background panning and zooming, something I hoped to do when drawing the BGs. There is no sound because I didn't even have time to find them. The writing probably had been a mess because I'm not a native writer and didn't prioritize my time writing. That's something I hope to fix in the full release.
Most of the arts are already done, so hopefully in 1 or 2 weeks I could finalize the script, add some music, effects and complete whatever remaining arts for this game.
Next time I write a devlog for this game will be full release time!
