I finally did the very boring thing, added a secondary layer of structure to the genetic management code so that any errors in game logic code could be more easily eliminated and voila: renaming creatures or moves no longer breaks their genome! Sometimes a creature's first move will retain it's natural first character but that's a bug for future Ash, much less severe. Enjoy!
