Big Improvements for v1.5

The First Wave

"Back to game design, the real fun stuff"

This was the first thing Carlos told me when we got on a zoom call to discuss player feedback. We received over 50 ratings for our jam entry, and all our players left detailed and thoughtful feedback. Since then, we've been working hard to overhaul the UI and design new mechanics. The game jam rating period ends on Dec 20th - we're releasing our first post-jam update on the 21st.

Here's an early preview of some of the changes:

Diplomacy

Diplomacy has had a major overhaul. The number of rounds has been increased from 4 to 16 and an entirely new mechanic has been added that we're calling "Event Rounds". During these rounds, the player will have unique opportunities such as getting free research, ship upgrades, healing, and much more. This increases the skill cap for diplomacy considerably as well as allowing different play styles.

Hyperdrive

Some players gave us feedback about the hyperdrive prompt being a little hard to understand. It has now been made more visual and a dynamic prompt has been added that explains the controls when needed.

Notifications

Notifications have also received a major overhaul. A dock has been added to let the player see the status of the research lab, medbay and repair stations at a glance. Each notification item has also been updated to have a cleaner aesthetic. Traveling to new planets also adds a visual separator between notifications.

Bug Fixes

All known bugs have been fixed.

Post Jam Plans

This will be the first major update for the post-jam version of the game. We have some big mechanical changes in the works, including a system to rank up recruited crew members and bring them along for future runs. We will keep you posted on the development of the game as we bring these systems to life.

See you all on the 21st!
