Hi,
Today is a grand day, I just gathered my courage to present to you one of my oldest production, which is over 8 and a half years old at the time of writing, Felix Vengelis -Twilight King-. It's an artefact from the past, a cornerstone of my journey, one of those that gave the most to my more recent productions, including HopDrop.
The interest is multiple.
Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- is a turn-based RPG, which is very freely inspired by The Legend of Zelda -Twilight Princess-, my favorite game, for which I have great admiration and which in my opinion has great potential . However, my skills from the days of making Twilight King made it an average play on its form. The background always suggests a certain potential.
The protagonist and antagonist of this game, respectively Felix Vengelis and Carlemany the Fury, did not appear first in Felix Vengelis -Twilight King-, the character of Felix Vengelis was created in November 2010, that of Carlemany the Fury in September 2011, and they first appeared as antagonists in games that predate Felix Vengelis -Twilight King-. This game is therefore the result of a desire to allow its 2 characters to have their own games, their own series ... Twilight King was planned quite early in fact, around December 2011 I was already thinking about this game. This game will have given a serie and a trilogy, and will therefore be followed by Felix and Filix Vengelis -Black Crystal Mask- and Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- 2.
Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- is a special game in many ways: for a turn-based RPG, it does not incorporate any notion of leveling, the fights were not the most exciting and its dungeons often boil down to quite confusing labyrinths (almost empty of decors, keys pushing rocks, and chest that only appear at certain times, in particular). These are the main reasons for the fiasco of the first Twilight King publication.
It has already opened a series, in which we find a trilogy. Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- marks the break with my old models of games. The games predeceded Twilight King were based on a very linear formula, you only went to different places in the games once (a bit like Super Mario Bros), and the games weren't specially prepared in advance (like j I was able to mention it in this devlog about the legacy of Felix and Filix Vengelis -Black Crystal Mask- to HopDrop). Twilight King was therefore the first game to have a schedule, to follow a common thread.
Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- offers a more open formula. Nothing prevents the player from returning to places where he has already been, the objectives are more clearly stated ... It is more RPG, and closer to the standards of adventure games than its predecessors, so to speak.
Not quite fair.
This version posted on itch.io is referenced as v2.1 build28112020. Despite its few changes, this version is not that different from the others.
Obviously, I would rather recommend that you play HopDrop. The disclosure of my archives is especially there to mark what I said in the part "Already, what is the interest of presenting old games?". Also, if ever some curious people want to rub shoulders with Felix Vengelis -Twilight King-, despite all the warnings on the quality that I have been able to do, I encourage them. Seeing this old game to learn from it (what works or not in a video game, work on yourself to gain more confidence ...) is something that I find very beautiful.
