Hallow's Eve version 1.2 released

Hallow's Eve
A downloadable game for Windows

Hallow's Eve version 1.2 is out now!

(Also, lol, I left this as a draft for 3 years, oops)

The biggest change (I mean, biggest is subjective) is the new accessibility / cheats options. Press F2 to open a menu to change various parameters about the game so it fits better the game you want to play. Here's the new options

  • Magic Regenerates: your magic / energy power will slowly fill back over time, instead of only refilling when using melee attacks on enemies. If you wanted to heal or use special attacks more often, this might help out.
  • Infinite Magic: Attacks and healing won't use any magic power at all.
  • Half Damage: You'll take half the amount of damage as you did previously. Enemies that did 1pt of damage (a half a heart) still do 1pt of damage though.
  • Extra recovery time: After being hit, you are invincible for a moment (this is called i frames). This extends the length of this period, so you can recover and maneuver after being hit.
  • Invincibility: Makes you totally invulnerable to being attacked. If you just want to play for the story or exploration or humor, this might be useful for you. Note: falling into water or pits still hurts you. This is a weird but I haven't fixed yet.
  • Increased attack range: The range of Ichabod's attacks increases to somewhere around 150% ish. You won't need to get as close to enemies to hurt them.
  • More Forgiving Stealth: This applies only to the stealth section later in the game, sneaking through the trick-or-treat-ing neighborhood. This causes people to take a little bit longer before they notice you, and the ghosts that attack move slightly slower.

All of these options are off by default, but can be toggled at any time by pressing F2. Note: the changes to how long before you're noticed in stealth require you re-enter the map (or are captured by a ghost) before they take effect.

The second change that's pretty cool is the key and button binding menu now includes item quick-swapping buttons. Previously these were hardcoded to the F and G keys, but now can be wherever you want. Press these buttons to immediately swap to the next special attack you have. This allows for fluidly shooting ranged attacks, then dashing in and using a spin kick, without ever pausing the game to switch attacks.

The button rebinding menu now works from the title screen as well. That seems like a little thing but it was a _lot_ of work it turns out, ahahaha.

Anyway, I hope Hallow's Eve can be more fun for folks for whom the tough combat wasn't the reason they played.
