It's a challenge to represent the modern well known world in a game. There's so much stuff that we all know. How to gamify it? Any approach will leave some people saying it's not representational or lacking similitude.
Instead of having specific professions and backgrounds I tried to broadly categorize characters' experiences. Then I thought about mechanical benefits for each archetype. I decided it would be good to keep things pretty much wide open for customization. But I wanted each background to have a specific thing it could be good at.
For people who work in Retail, with the drudgery, the tedious hours, the unpleasant customers, I figured Tenacity was a natural thing they would develop. Out of all the different types of character, Retail workers are the only ones with potential to start at (d10) Tenacity.
