Traverse Player's Handbook v. 2.0 has just been released. This is an enormous update containing, in the text, a few essential mechanical changes and a whole slew of cosmetic and language adjustments. v. 2.0 is presented in a fully formatted and illustrated PDF!
Major Changes:
- Character Creation: v. 1 allowed too great disparity between new characters and permitted characters to start the game too powerful. v. 2.0 addresses these concerns by limiting new characters to a new maximum "Base Modifier" of 5 instead of 8 and instituting a new "Weakness" aptitude.
- "Race" is now "Heritage", and uses of the term "race" have been altered (often to "heritage" or "people") where appropriate.
- "Racial Aptitudes" are now "Born Aptitudes" and are no longer attached to a player's choice of heritage.
- The magical class "Sorcerer" has been replaced by "Golemist".
- Chapters 2 and 3 have been reordered (formerly Magic and Encounters, now Encounters and Magic respectively).
- The Appendices have been reordered.
Traverse is the creation of one white cisgender man and is consequently subject to a lot of unconscious bias. Not only that, but the first pages of this manual were written as long ago as 2011, when said man was a teenager with much less awareness of social justice. If you notice a bias in the text, implicit or explicit, that may negatively impact gameplay for any marginalized people group and you have the spoons to let me know, please do. I want Traverse to be accessible in every sense of the word, and rewarding and enriching for all players.
