The SA Game Jam's theme in 2020 is "Returning from the Brink". I knew I wanted to get into some more writing and was hoping to set up some great, but basic, gameplay that would enhance the reader's experience of the story. I also wanted to write some original songs and do some full on foley room recording for sound design. I didn't do that at all.
I spent more time on the story because I enjoyed where it was going so much. I preferred having a full story over having sound. I might still come back to this to add it. If you'd like to then, please, by all means!
Here's some background on the story - please make sure you play through it before reading further.
One of my favourite chapters in Lord of the Rings is when the Hobbits have returned to the Shire (not when they encounter Sarumon, after that)- when Frodo realises he can never really come back. His purpose was fulfilled and he was traumatised.
He'd returned from the brink of destruction and was weaker and more confused because of it. That's human and relatable.
