The first release of my game!

The Sword
A browser game made in HTML5

So this game took me a while to make and I was in a bit of a rush as of how to complete it. The idea behind this game took me a little time to figure out. The idea while prototyping was to make a game where you don't control the knight, instead you control a tool the knight possesses. I started of by learning the basics of path-finding in Godot. It was pretty easy to accomplish that, I must say.

Here is the original prototype:

It was something I was proud of because I never expected to learn path finding... like this... Of course, path finding isn't the only element in the game, there were a lot more to do like adding enemies and stuff. It had to be an actual puzzle game.

As each day passed, I added newer mechanics like mages throwing potions at you and the ability to actually throw a sword. The problem that stuck with me were making puzzles. Thankfully, Jonas Tyroller and Mark Brown (the man behind GMTK) had released videos on making puzzles and that made me think and get ideas for making puzzles.

The drawback I had when making puzzles were that I had no idea on how to do a difficulty curve. That, in my opinion, is the major problem of the game which I'm not proud of. What I am proud of is the visuals, the gameplay idea, and how it was executed. Sure, it isn't a perfect game but it was something.

I added in a dialogue system, chests, mages, and a juicy, shaky camera at that point of time. It was very fun to work on the game.

In the end, here was the time that took me to make the game:

Recording, streaming and sharing what we did at the end of the day with other jammers were really fun. I'd like to give my sincere gratitude to each and every member from Miziziziz's server, including Smolboi (Lleyton)

Thank you for reading this short devlog and for playing the game. I am looking forward to the next jam by Miziziziz.
