Version 0.3.7 released
Posted October 09, 2026 by indyjo
Release 0.3.7 is out — cloaked units, a working Nod ending, and another speed pass.
What's new?
- Cloaked units. The stealth tank is now rendered with a new effect inspired by the DOS version but tailored for Atari hardware.
What's improved?
- Speed. Playback is about 5% faster on the TT and about 13% faster on the 8 MHz STe. Infantry that stay in the same cell skip the full map update; sprite C2P fits into 68000 CPU registers; redraw rejects objects outside the dirty area quicker; some playback-only optimizations. Details in Benchmark.md.
- Pathfinding. Certain impossible paths fail earlier, avoiding gamespeed slowdowns.
What's fixed?
- Nod ending. The ending sequence did not play.
- Side selection. When selecting the Nod side, the Nod logo zoom-in video was skipped.
- Cutscenes. On some Nod missions the game ran out of memory which caused cutscenes to stop playing.
- Save games. Save games were not ordered correctly. The most recently saved files are now listed first.
- Map select. Before the final mission, the click map was accidentally displayed on screen.
remix-web
Not strictly part of this release, but the remix-web tool changed as well. Sound conversion is no longer high-pitched, thanks to high-quality libsamplerate conversion. Videos have better lip-sync and require less RAM.
How to play?
Download the new release zip. It is recommended to re-run the web-based remix tool to profit from the audio and video conversion changes. Saved-game format did not change.
Don't hesitate to report any problems. Command & Conquer for Atari ST is a work in progress.
Have fun! — Jonas
