This weeks progress is slim to show but I have a basic understanding of how AI should work (it is a lot of unique code that I might be able to make modular. That is to say that I am now spending more time thinking that I am actually doing anything. Unfortunately, making levels, animations and generally designing a game is something that I am not the best at. I have studied countless other people analyzing how levels are made and I have seen how other people make their levels. The main problem comes down to focus. I want to make a metroidvania game. I want to make it to where the player feels like they are exploring a world that is opening up. Unfortunately, the current world and design I have follows more along the line of Metroid Fusion. It is very linear and has a lot of story but that isn't what I want. I keep making the same mistake and I think I just need to rework the idea of the world. Cause what I have learned is that the world is just as much a character as the villains are. The world communicates exactly what I want it to and without the player understanding what I want then they will be just as confused as I am. I need someone creative but unfortunately I am alone, or at least as alone as I can get with a cat always on my lap when I am programming.
All of this to say that I need to start making things. I need to understand that I am not going to succeed on my first attempt when making the levels and when making the game. This is a promise that I will keep to myself and to every 2 people that might read this. By the end of the week the white box of the tree level will be done. I might not have all the puzzles. I will definitely not have all the assets in the level. I will however have the entire thing laid out to whether I like it or not. I need to either move forward and fail or I need to stay where I am and never make progress.
