DevLog #8

Life's Gate
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android

Zdravo!

P.S. For those who are new here: at the very beginning, I wrote that I would greet you in different languages in my devlogs. This time, it’s Bosnian. I chose it because I’m currently watching the World Cup, and Bosnia is playing right now. So next time, the greeting will be in another language.

Now, let’s move on to the devlog.

This week, I managed to do pretty much everything I wanted. I worked a little on the UI and ideas for new screens, looked through some music that would fit Episode 2, and, most importantly, fully finished the dialogue for Episode 2.

Writing / Story

As I mentioned above, the dialogue is now fully finished. I’ve already gone through it several times and made edits, so if there are any changes while adding the text into the game itself, they will most likely be minor and won’t take much time.

In terms of clean dialogue/text, Episode 2 has 16,290 words. That’s about 2,500 words less than Episode 1.

Episode 2 will have 28 scenes, compared to 24 scenes in Episode 1. So the episode should feel a little more dynamic and eventful.

There will also be 2 H-scenes waiting for you. Of course, I can’t reveal who they will be with yet, but I really enjoyed writing them. So I hope you’ll enjoy them too.

Rendering

Unfortunately, there isn’t any progress here yet. At the moment, there are still 0 renders.

But next week will be fully focused on rendering, so progress should start moving much faster.

UI

This week, I also started working a little on the phone mechanic. It hasn’t been added to the game yet, but I’ve already outlined what should be inside it and how it should work. So, overall, the hardest part conceptually is already done.

I haven’t worked on other things like the gallery or codex yet. Though I already have an idea of how they should look after playing one game that gave me some inspiration.

Other

As I wrote at the beginning, I also picked out some music for future scenes, so there has been some progress here as well.

That said, most of the music will probably be added when the build is almost ready. Though I might try changing my workflow a little. I’m still not sure what will be more convenient.

There is also one very good piece of news that I hope I’ll be able to share soon. But for now, I’ll leave it as a surprise.

Progress

Writing — 60% ⬆️ 100%

Rendering — 0%

Code — 0%

UI — 0% ⬆️ 10%

Music — 0% ⬆️ 5%

In-game Proofreading / Testing — 0%

That’s it for today. I’ll finish here and go watch some football. After all, the World Cup only happens once every four years 😅

If you haven’t voted for the girl you liked the most in Episode 1 yet, you can do it here

As always, have a great morning, afternoon, evening, or night - whenever you’re reading this.
