I play this game quite a bit in my spare time (really, really prefer making games I find fun over stuff I think other people will find fun. If you like this game, great, but really it's for me) and I've realised I've gotten a bit too consistent at managing the screen past the 25k mark. So I was pondering on ways to improve that, make it harder for me, and I've landed at shamelessly ripping off gradual enemy upgrades from basically any game that does arena shooting or "survivors-likes" if you wanna call it that. I remember a time when it was called a 'horde survival' or 'bullet heaven' game but hey man, whatever works.
Side note, it's like the genre 'friendslop' that got coined with all those kind of games coming out recently. I sorta get that one, like it's a bunch of games where the content is really just hanging out with your friends. That's fine and all, if anything I'm quite glad that's something people are interested in playing, and I'm not averse to dipping my toes in that genre at some point - after all I too would like to have a fun time with friends - but it's weird what terms for genres get thrown out nowadays. Whatever, maybe I'm just old.
I'm going to make it so when you hit 25k points, which is really where I noticed I got a little bored, you are now greeted with a small congratulatory message, and enemies begin to get upgraded. I'll not type what happens to them, but I think it'll be fun. It's nothing groundbreaking either - I just wanted to note down my plan for upgrading so in the future when I look back on my projects I can note down what worked and what didn't. It's been helpful going back on the Mercworks logs and seeing "wow I was really obsessed with making something others would enjoy", which has what sparked this fun little venture of projects that I enjoy.
Oh, also, in case anyone does come across this, look up.
Cheers!
