v1.0 Slice

Hacksweeper
A browser game made in HTML5

Thank you for playing and the support.

This update is focused on making a run feel more complete from start to finish.

There are no new modes, no permanent upgrades, and no big content drop in this version. Instead, this slice improves the core flow: starting a run, pausing, changing settings, saving progress, checking maps, and sharing results.

What changed

  • You can now press Esc during a run to open a pause menu.
  • Settings are now saved in your profile instead of being hardcoded.
  • The settings menu now includes options for:
  • movement
  • contrast
  • scanlines
  • background noise
  • screen shake
  • tooltip delay
  • audio volume
  • Web builds now save your profile using browser localStorage.
  • New profiles start with a fixed first-run board.
  • End cards now include a shareable run string.
  • On web, you can press C to copy the run string.
  • The HUD now shows active kill combos when they go above x1.

First-run board

Fresh profiles now start on a hand built board instead of a fully random one.

The goal is to give new players a fairer opening without adding a tutorial popup. The board includes a safer start, one early low-tier ICE, some loot, high tier anchors, and a distant marked REAPER.

Map generation

Map validation is stricter now.

The game checks that each board has:

  • one entry point
  • one REAPER
  • safe tiles around the entry
  • enough distance to the REAPER
  • high tier ICE
  • valid Sparse and Dense rules
  • a connected revealable empty region

Normal map generation now gets a small deterministic retry pass if a board fails validation. The fixed first-run board uses the same checks.
