Tux!
A downloadable game for Linux

Much has been added to the game over the past few weeks, and the time has come to release a new version of Tux! into the world.

Bycocket

The new Bycocket hat will turn you into Robin Tux. It comes with a bow and 10 retrievable arrows. The reach of the Bullwhip has been reduced, but the attack range of this new gadget will more than make up for it. The Bycocket can be found in Olympus and most of the battle maps. This brings the total number of hats in the game to six, each providing your character with unique abilities.

Lava Blob

There's a new creature in town, ready to jump up from the lava to cook your goose. He's so hot right now, but by using the Wizard Hat's freeze spell they can be solidified and will shatter on any hard surface on their way down.

Zombie Snail

These poor infected fellas have been around for a while, but this new behavior makes them much more than just a semi-passive obstacle: After stunning a Zombie Snail - either by jumping on top or striking it with your bullwhip - they can be kicked in any direction by simply walking into them. This will send them sliding at a dangerous speed until hitting a wall or creature.

New Levels

Four new levels have been added to the game, together with two new pieces of music.

Sardine Run
  • Capering Cod
Battle Mode
  • Rome About
  • Salsa Picante
  • Fairy Circle

Free-for-All

Although the Free-for-All game mode was available in the previous version, it was still lacking scorekeeping. Now that it has been implemented, a winner can be determined in each of the three Battle Modes.

Sky

Both in the main menu and during play, the once empty sky has been adorned with fluffy clouds. The background now also has a color transition from the horizon to the azimuth. All in all, this leaves the sky quite a bit less bland throughout the game. Speaking of the main menu, the terrain in the background has gained some detail in the form of hills, rocks and grass blades.

UI

The user interface has been improved on several accounts. Navigating menus with either the keyboard or gamepad has become a much smoother ride with less quirks. Toggling pause also makes more sense, and the resolution of checkboxes and scrollbar arrows has increased. In the character menu, the drop-down list that is used to pick your character now has a portrait next to each name. Furthermore, all languages have been extended to include translations for the new menus, and the addition of Swedish brings the total available languages to eight. Last but not least, every level now shows a preview image to give an impression of what you'll be getting into before hitting Start.

Level Editor

Meanwhile, Edddy has also gained some new features that will save a lot of time making levels. The Symmetrize operation can copy and rotate the selection around a set pivot, thereby reducing the creation of balanced battle maps to just a a few clicks, once the recurring section is complete, and any modifications thereafter are easily applied across the whole map. There's also a new Move tool which is capable of more than its name implies. Apart from allowing to move selected blocks around for making unforeseen corrections in the layout of your maps, it can also duplicate the selection by holding Shift, and rotate the copied blocks when combining scrolling with the Ctrl key.
