My role on this assignment was to make various 2D assets, mostly websites and icons. For the websites I used Photoshop so that the programmers could change things around as they see fit easily, and for the icons i used Aesprite.
For the icons, i made the error icon, up/download icons, the text editor icon, the documents folder and the media folder. I made this with clarity and consistency in mind, and made sure to match the art style of the other artist, Michael.
I also made three pop-up ads, that being the "Play Cross Code", "We have hacked you" and "Programmer Awareness Foundation" images. With these i wanted to stress the sketchiness of the pop-ups, so they are intentionally very poorly designed and very hard to look at. I also wanted them to be differentiated from the normal desktop, so it is more obvious to the player that it is something unnatural to be dealt with.
I also made many of the websites for the game, the main one being Darkspace (the site where you submit your assignment), which i wanted to look very clean to emulate actual college websites. I also made File Converter, which was very simplistic but very clear in what to do. FixRepair is a website I wanted to look very sketchy in contrast however, as it is supposed to give you a virus; I feel like the gradient on all of the boxes aids that feeling, along with the slogans at the bottom of the page and the "Subscription Plans" button at the top right. "Mat's Awesome Tools" is another website I made with the intent of sketchiness and wasting the players time by putting the necessary tool at the bottom of the page (the file for the full site is too large to put here, but it is the site with the fire background). I wanted to give each website its own identity, and so I gave each one a different colour.
I made some filler websites as well, such as "Housecontained" and the "Skilkskog wiki". This was made to add more life into the game, to make the computer have signs of use outside of assignments and to characterise the player character a bit. I also took the wallpaper photo myself and edited it in Photoshop.
The carpet texture was also done by me, it is part of the enviornment of the living and bedroom to make it look more lived in.
