Working Title:
Lance Breakers
Concept Statement
You’re a medieval knight in the search of glory travelling from tournament to tournament to prove your strength, honour, and skill in the jousting arena. Climb your way to the top by breaking lances, defeating rivals, and forever be immortalised in the history books as a champion.
Genre:
Medieval Action Arcade
Concept Creation Process:
I got the idea for this game concept while watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms back in January/February. I then tried to figure out how this would function as a playable game and how to translate it into a feasible plan. Ended up deciding to use quick time events before each hit, so it's competitive but quick to pick up. I included a tournament structure where you face tougher opponents as you progress through the rounds. The goal was to keep things simple whilst making it reward.
Intended Audience:
This s game is aimed towards anyone who is interested in the medieval genre. The genre is quite ‘open’ and not very niche so it can be enjoyed by a lot more people compared to something like a soulslike, for example. This is suited towards fans of medieval games like Kingdom Come Deliverance II and Chivalry 2.
Competitive Analysis:
There are quite a few competitors to Lance Breakers, one of these being Shake Spears, which released on mobile and PS3. It’s a relatively simple game when it comes to the jousting, but it does have spells and different ‘power-ups' from what I’ve seen and a decent progression to it which does make up for the simplicity of what the basic gameplay loop actually is.
Another example was found on itch.io, It's a game called Joustinator by danslocombe, this game was fun, and the music is great, but the controls when striking the opponent let the game down. The art style is nice, especially when the player is moving and each part of the background is moving separately provides a cool visual.
