My solution worked as an alternative. We will have both the character and platform move, character doesn't fall through the platform and platform doesn't go through ground. While it took several tries an hour of research we did it. Though this game now kinda looks like a 8-bit wonky Flappy bird its something I can be a little proud of. First 2D game and its turning out okay.
