Quick reminder: You can follow development more closely on the Trello board.
Shit has been painfully slow 😢
What I'm working on right now:
Scene 11
Please look at my Technical Corner section for an update on the RAM replacement.
In the meantime, development has been slow (again, please check out the Technical Corner below for the reason). And so, I'm afraid to say that while I'm still making progress on the last scene, but holy absolute fuck it's been abysmally slow. Just know that I'm pushing and pushing as much as I can.
I wrote this a few days ago before I received some news:
I've been sending requests to the RAM manufacturer for an update on my memory shituation, asking for an ETA or even just a confirmation that they've received the package. Unfortunately, even though I've got the tracking information showing that the package has been received, they have not gotten back to me with any sort of update; they have not responded to any of my communication requests.
*In the mean-time, I've stolen some extra RAM from my BlenderMan render rig which is 32 GB total, rather than my usual 128 GB. Sadly, my scenes being so large blaze past the 32 GB and into swap usage, which is terribly slow. The scene behaves so slowly that it's just painful... BUT rendering an image is also painfully slow. Yes, I probably shouldn't have made my scenes so large. But I didn't think I'd be without my 128 GB of RAM for so long 😢*
Update on Warranty RAM
Alright, well, the RAM brand STILL hasn't replied back to me, but I did receive a shipping notification that something is being shipped to me and will be arriving in the next week.
So at this point, I don't know if they're shipping back my original (broken) RAM, or if they're shipping back a replacement set... only time will tell, and I'll share the news via the next DevLog.
And unfortunately, spending $1,500 on a brand new replacement set of RAM just isn't in the budget.
I'm just incredibly disappointed in this entire dev-cycle. Hardware problem after hardware problem, issue after another, I'm getting really bummed out and doing my best to avoid being burnt out. So I apologize for the delays, I am trying to maintain productivity.
How's everyone else coping with the RAM shortage and prices? Anybody else run into irredeemable situations?
