v0.0.10 the shiny one

Convergence Compulsion
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android

I've got the last of the power-ups converted over this week. The rest of the time was spent on enhancing the look and feel of the game. It's really coming together!

Converted the top-bottom power-up into an obstacle type

When you pick up the power-up now, you'll drop a director on your next match. Bump the director to shift the direction of waves, so they come from top and bottom. Bump it again, and the go back to normal. If you place multiple directors, they stay in sync as you bump each one. Matches in the vertical direction count for more points too!

A whole bunch of visual changes

Mostly, things are shinier now, but here's the full rundown.

  • Text now has a gradient to it, adding a sense of both light and depth.
  • The player and the obstacles all have similar changes to the text.
  • Likewise, waves, blooms, and the floor all have shading to match the new lighting direction.
  • Obstacles spawn in differently. No more spin; more of a rise-from-the-floor feel.
  • The player's trail is now made of the same particles as the wave foam.

I had planned on ending the alpha with this release, but I thought of a few more ideas that represent kind of major changes to how the game plays. I think I'll be able to get them both in this week, so I've extended the alpha--and the sale--for the time being. Until then, thanks for playing!
