Slickback
A browser game made in HTML5

hello! my new year's resolution for 2026 was to create one game a month. the completion of Slickback marks me being 1/6 of the way on that goal.

coming into the jam, the idea came much quicker to me than i expected and using the momentum from January's game helped with going straight into development. also coming out of January, i was hoping to create a deeper gameplay loop that has a good opportunity to incorporate lots of player feedback - that thought was also a bi-product of how i interepreted the theme, slick. i felt like slick, outside of thematics/setting, incorporates a lot of game juice / feedback behind it. so with that idea in mind + having the theme playing as a barber, it helped me feel like i was tackling this theme from all angles. however, given the shorter schedule i have for the jam (and this month for personal obligations), i wanted to focus my learnings on programming & game design, so i commissioned 2 friends to work on the art & music for me which proved to take a lot off my shoulders.

despite the help, i did have to leave out a lot of additional fine-tuning / polish goals i had before the end of the jam, which included but aren't limited to:

  • arena art
  • arena bg
  • different enemy types
  • particle effects
  • more sprites / animations

but i'm learning & accepting that's the nature of game dev. either way, i'm beyond proud of this month's game and hope to work on it a bit more before attending to my personal obligation for the rest of the month.

huge shoutout to @timdelros & @snowinfinity.studio for their help - couldn't have done it w/o them

onto March's game!
