This week, I worked to cleanup all the meshes in my file.
I have a massive file with all my assets in it, but I needed to simplify some of the geometry and edge loops of some of my assets since the focus on my work is on optimization.
Most notably, I simplified the following assets: -anchor
-clock
-photo frames
-bottles
-books
-scrolls x 3
-tarp x 2
- filigree x 2
-chair
Additionally, simplifying by removing some of the edge loops caused some issues with UVs, so I had to re-unwrap them and retexture.
Additionally, for some assets like the tarps I had in my scene, I had to redo the geo completely because it was so dense. By this, I mean I had to manually removed 50% of the edge loops. Then, I had to manually restitch the tarp together in the UV editor. I did this for the 2 instanced tarps in my scene.
After, I cleaned up the prop placement in my scene eve more. I used the simplify tool in unreal engine in order to get the poly count even lower. I discovered that you can preserve normals so that even if you simplify to 50% of the object poly count, the texturing will not be affected.
The next step in my project will be to finally create the new tiling textures and shader material for my scene.
