Hello River Dwellers
We hope everyone has been taking care of themselves with how crazy the new year has been. With the holidays, personal events, getting ready for Midwest Gaming Classic, and trying to understand the US tax code we have been very busy. With that we are sorry for not giving a proper update last month. We have made a lot of progress on level design, and enemy design. You can see this as we have put in the first "dungeon" and have it primarily mapped out. We need to add some universal game flags and lock and key mechanics, and the boss of the dungeon, and then we can say it is complete. This dungeon will also mark the end of the demo so we are taking extra special care to make sure it is a good experience.
For the tilemaps and art we are also going to take a step back and replace everything with line art. This is because we have been resizing the sprites in engine, and it is causing more jittering than we would like. We also want to make the assets more consistent and uniform. So for the time being Clover is going to exist in an asylum white and gray world. We apologize that this is going to detract from the experience, but since this is still considered an Alpha build we think it is best to do now.
Finally as we wrap up the layout, level design, and dialogue system we will be moving to work on some cut-scenes and events. These are the tools that will help us tell the story. Since metroidvanias are meant to give the player certain freedoms we are trying to make sure these scenes facilitate the lore and don't railroad the game play experience. With that we you enjoy the latest build of Clover.
