Version 1.3

Echidna Wars Mini: Revitalized
A browser game made in HTML5

New year, new update!!

This version has been much enhanced with the original java program (it was, indeed, a hassle to get it working), so a lot of SMALL things have been added and tweaked:

  • Separated the "character roster" from the three-person "party", and implemented the party building UI. When on the level select screen, press "A" to open the party builder. As of now, only the original Mirea, Sachiho, and unlockable TGO-03 are implemented, although plans EXIST to fill the eight on-screen slots...
  • Added the title(?) screen! From here, you can delete your save data too! That actually works, and it's actually permanent, and it asks for NO confirmation, so beware!
  • Fixed(?) an even smaller spacing issue with the world-select screen. Also confirmed more of the font because there is more text in the original game than videos had shown.
  • Added a slight delay when the party UI appears for healing teammates with collected items (otherwise if it healed 1 or 2 HP, the screen would appear for 1 or 2 frames, which isn't helpful!)
  • Fixed Mirea's level 2 attack, and allowed her to attack while flying.
  • Characters, when defeated in a level, now correctly lose all their HP and attack levels.
  • Removed the erroneous invisible wall in the Sachiho's House level to allow you to jump down to end the level.
  • Hid the current lottery-style capture-escape system behind an inaccessible setting, instead you need a flat 10 button presses to break free.
  • Readjusted item drop chances (this will still need more consideration).
  • Made the outside-of-game border the same color the original game used for the non-game areas of the web page (RGB 85, 85, 85, hexcode #555555).
  • Added an inaccessible setting to make jumps instant (it skips past the "crouching into jump" frame, but it also makes jumps feel more responsive)
  • Completed the party member danger UI ("Help!" text and their healthbar, while they are knocked down or actively captured)
  • Buffed the rice ball from 5 HP to 6 HP because that's in the original.
  • Adjusted the checkpoint puki's hitbox to be only the balloon, as per the original.
  • Prevented the enemy crystal of each level from respawning if you have already beaten the level (i.e. destroyed the crystal). Continuity!

And perhaps some small other things which I don't recall- foolishly I drafted this update announcement without saving it anywhere, and a computer restart erased the nicely-ordered bullet list of all the changes I'd made...

Otherwise, this pushes the game very, very close to feature parity. What's left is somehow replicating the jellyfish's bizarre movement behavior, the proper "continue?" screen after being defeated in a level (in its place, you are booted directly to the level-select screen. Select the same level again to automatically "continue" i.e. from a checkpoint if any), optionally the game speed slider (doubtful), and... other tiny things I am forgetting.

Happy video-gaming!!
