I've been thinking a lot about the goals of this game something that can tie in directly to the proposed concept. Something simple that develops the main mechanic of swapping between these two entities.
The unnamed Enchanted Forest has now become the Forest of the Fallen, the idea is to possibly elaborate on the ceremony that the Warrior goes through when coming of age. The Warrior must make their way to a location in the forest now known as the Tree of the Ascended. Here they will place the ashes of their Fallen One, where the ashes will be incorporated into the tree as it grows to reach the Heavens. One might consider this a spiritual journey with their Fallen One.
During the time of this ceremony, the Forest is under attack by an enchanted Fire Sprite/Golem and so the Forest Sprites have been working to protect both the Forest and the Tree. This creates obstacles that the Warrior must navigate through or around to reach the Tree. The otherworldly presence of these obstacles is what leads the Warrior to discover their true connection with their Fallen One, and the dormant ability that they possess.
While the Warrior can overcome most physical obstacles, spiritual and elemental obstacles can only be surmounted by their Fallen One.
Ideas for Obstacles:
Ideas for Interaction:
Ideas for an Encounter:
To start, I envision that the Forest is alive, wherever the Warrior enters would be the outer ring. As the Warrior progresses through the Forest and as time passes, the inner rings will turn either clockwise or counter-clockwise. The idea is to present the Warrior with different challenges on subsequent play throughs while also adding elements of randomness and procedurality.
I also envision that the Fallen One’s interaction with the elements allows her to manipulate that element’s essence for an allotted time, which grants the ability to use that element.
