Been some time. Haven't forgot by any means, but life happened, and then life kept happening, and to be honest, live is still gonna keep happening for a bit as I'll be moving in a month or so. But I recently have been thinking about this project a lot, and I've really wanted to begin focusing on it again as many of my other passions feel aimless. There has been a great deal of thought that I've been putting into the mechanics, how I want the game to look, and how it plays. I forget at this point what I've talked about before, but I've recently been inspired to throw together some concept pieces as the stars have aligned a bit and I actually got my tablet out.
I had a fantastic dream where I saw one of the most interesting ways to cast and use magic, but unfortunately forgot everything past the ritual to actually activate the spell. What I did manage to remember, was the iconography used by the main caster, which was a fox spirit of some kind. I have no idea how I managed to remember it is such detail, but its design is pretty interesting, I think. Anyways, since it kills me that I can't remember what the spell actually did, I figured I'd put what I did remember to use and include the whole aesthetic as a clan of some kind in the game, as the way the spell was cast was very sexual.
In my time off, I thought of how I wanted to depict proportions, and recently found information regarding "head lengths", which I'm thinking I may have posted about at one point. The point stands though, that I actually have the range in mind for what I want to have in the game. The image includes some extra information for me personally for when I actually begin drawing the models in detail, which will be quite the monumental task. With things like dismemberment in mind (Which I can't remember fully if I talked about before or not) with portals or magic, or whatever the means, I'll have to be segmenting the main body into 10 segments, each limb at the main bend, elbows, knees, and again from the torso at the hips and shoulders, and also the head, so 8 in total for all limbs, and 2 for the head and body. This is going to mean that, at minimum, for each proportion there's going to be 110 sprites lol. And that's not gonna be the minimum. That's for the base model. So that will be interesting to see when it eventually comes together.
In other news, I've been formulating the best method to actually get this game into code. I know AI is a hot topic right now, but if you're pretty aimless in what direction to start working away at, ChatGPT can really help giving you a good set of goals to work through. In theory, Godot is actually going to be the better engine for this game thanks to what it can pull off, so I guess I'm glad I never actually attempted to use GameMaker? I'm gonna have to re-read that conversation, but it boosted my confidence in this project actually being possible to have exist.
You'll be hearing more from me in the future, so keep your eyes peeled.
