Hotfix 0.9.25: Tweaks & Balance Changes

Terminal Colony: Deep Core
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS

 Fixes

This update tackles a couple of production bugs that could seriously mess with progress.

Workers not producing resources
In some cases, worker production could drop to zero because the new Tools system applied a global efficiency multiplier, and the default value for tool bonuses ended up being 0.0. That meant the final multiplier became 0, so workers generated no blocks, data, or depth.

I fixed this by making the default tool bonus multiplier 1.0 (neutral), so production can’t accidentally get wiped out.

Changed:

  • Base energy regen is now 2.0/sec (up from 1.0/sec), so you can comfortably run two plasma drills at baseline instead of one.

  • Plasma drills now cost 0.7/sec per drill (down from 1.0/sec), a 30% reduction.

To make early energy upgrades less of a uranium bottleneck, I also added two new options:

  • Basic Energy Cell (upgrade): +0.5 energy/sec regen
Cost: 500 Data, 50 Blocks (no uranium)
    Unlock: 100m depth

  • Basic Power Efficiency (research): +0.5 energy/sec regen
    Cost: 2,000 Data, 100 Blocks, 10 Uranium
Unlock: once you’ve collected 5 uranium
No prerequisites — meant to be reachable early, and to break the “need energy to get uranium” loop.

And for later progression:

  • Nuclear Power now costs 50 uranium (down from 100).

What this looks like in practice: if you’re running 7 plasma drills, energy drain drops from 7.0/sec → 4.9/sec, while base regen goes from 1.0/sec → 2.0/sec. That shrinks the deficit from -6.0/sec to -1.9/sec, which is much easier to cover with the new early upgrades.

Workers UI + Tooling Update

Workers tab: The “+ / –” job buttons should be much more dependable now. They could occasionally miss clicks inside the scroll area, so I changed the input handling to egui’s standard .clicked() approach.

Tools & Equipment: Tool efficiency upgrades now apply to the entire worker lineup  Tier 1 through Tier 3  so everyone from Geologists and Surveyors to late-game specialists like Void Miners and Singularity Keepers benefits. This makes tool upgrades consistently useful throughout progression.

Big thanks to the player who reported these bugs and stuck with the game all the way into the endgame.
