Hello everyone!
I’m excited to share the Catalist Codex, my entry for the TTRPG Bookmark Jam. This project addresses a common challenge many Narrators (GMs/Storytellers) face: how to seamlessly integrate reading inspiration into game preparation.
Like many of you, I find incredible plot hooks, characters, and settings in my reading—be it classic fantasy or modern sci-fi. However, whenever I reached for a digital device to capture an idea for a “Lost Locus” or a “Red Herring,” I often found myself losing my flow. Notifications, background tasks, and the temptation of distraction often hijack that moment of creative clarity.
I needed a solution that was always available, tactile, and completely analog. The answer: the humble bookmark.
The Catalist Codex is a dual-purpose bookmark and a specialized mnemonic guide designed to keep you focused.
Its evocative, genre-neutral prompts—from “Achilles Heel” to “Cosmic Joke”—are curated to be universal. While reading, you jot down a corresponding concept from your book onto the bookmark (a powerful “Unwritten Law,” a crucial “Prized Keepsake,” or the reason for a “Dark Fixation”).
The result is a highly personalized and concentrated cheat sheet. When improvisation is needed during a session, you have an immediate, distraction-free reference to the ideas that have already ignited your imagination. It helps you stop searching for inspiration and start weaving the tale instantly.
