As I hit the deadline for a new devlog, I'm still hard at work on enemy AI, detection and attack. I'm happy to report that the combat finally loops, with ships and player taking turns. However, I'm going to need a few more weeks to finalize escort ships AI, which is crucial to a balanced and challenging gameplay.
However, I have something a bit unusual to make up for the wait. Some time ago, Patricio Land, the editor of the Playdate magazine Cranko! reached out with a really nice offer. He proposed to interview me about the genesis of the game, its development, and its future. I imagine that it might be of interest to people following the devlog, as I address various questions not yet covered here.
Unfortunately, Cranko!, which is amazingly a real paper magazine, isn't available in the United States,. So Patricio graciously lets me publish the entire 6 pages feature here, at the understandable condition that magazine subscribers still get to read it first.
So on December 22, you'll be able to read the full interview here, right in time before Christmas, while I prepare the last part of the Enemy AI devlog for the new Year.
Here's a peak at the cover, which features a work in progress illustration I've worked at on and off, for a possible physical box cover. Thanks again to Patricio, who is a dream to work with and a great supporter of Atlantic '41.
